I remember when this coffee shop opened. I was attending the middle school down the street at the time, and would always see my classmates walk to this location after school. Years passed and I never got the time to go in a check it out dispite me always wanting to. Well fast forward 8 years later I finally got a chance to check this coffee shop out and was very excited in the days leading up to arriving and I left extremely disappointed. I visited this location around mid July of 2026. The barista claimed their oven wasn’t working and they weren’t serving food. I wanted a simple bagel and she told me rudely that they weren’t serving food at all hot or cold with their oven not working.. what’s wrong with eating a cold bagel..? I felt rushed while looking at the menu and deciding if I wanted a coffee or not, since I wanted to try and make the most out of my first time coming here. I decided to order an espresso shot and it was horrible bitter, despite me adding three sugar packets. I wasn’t even asked or I wanted milk or cream. I also ordered one of their chocolate chip cookies and it was extremely crumby, old tasting, and super sugary. Overall my experience at black diesel was ve

Black Diesel Coffee is hands down the best coffee in Ann Arbor and I say that with zero hesitation. Every cup is dialed in, consistent, and genuinely exceptional. But don't sleep on the food: their avocado toast is the best I've ever had. You can tell it's made with real care and attention, and it shows in every bite. This place sets the standard.

My go-to spot for coffee in Ann Arbor. Baristas are knowledgeable and friendly and the coffee is consistently good. Usually a small wait for food but 100% worth it. You can tell they put care into everything they do.

Great coffee shop for working. Strong Wifi ("Black Diesel Guest Network", no password), lots of tables good for parties of 1-2, and lots of outlets for you to plug in available next to almost every table. Service was a bit slow, but everyone was very kind, and I wasn't in a rush, so I didn't mind. 2 gender neutral bathrooms were also available to customers, as well as a free parking lot with many available spaces. Outdoor seating was also available, but with it being a rainy October morning at the time I'm writing this review, I didn't partake in it. I thought their community wall and their books, blankets, and board games for the community were also a thoughtful touch.

I recently visited Black Diesel Coffee and had a great experience. I ordered a chai tea latte, and my husband got a cappuccino. The barista was super nice and welcoming, which set a positive tone right from the start. The place was quite busy, which is always a good sign that you’re in a quality coffee shop. The shop has a variety of seating options, including tables and barstools, making it a versatile spot whether you’re coming alone or with a group. It’s also a great place to study or do some work, with a comfortable atmosphere that’s conducive to productivity. They offer some food items as well, which adds to the overall convenience. As for the drinks, the chai tea latte was perfect—just the right balance of spices and milk—and my husband really enjoyed his cappuccino too. Overall, Black Diesel Coffee is a nice place with good vibes and excellent coffee. I’d definitely recommend it and will likely return.
